It encompasses the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The study and control of communicable and noncommunicable diseases<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The promotion of healthy behaviors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The provision of preventive and curative health services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The creation of healthy environments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The protection of vulnerable populations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Public health has a long and rich history, dating back to the ancient Greeks and Romans. However, it was not until the late 19th and early 20th centuries that public health began to take on its modern form. This was due in large part to the work of pioneers such as John Snow, who identified the importance of clean water in preventing cholera, and Florence Nightingale, who revolutionized the practice of nursing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the years since, public health has made significant progress in improving the health of populations around the world. Vaccines have eradicated or controlled many deadly diseases, such as smallpox and polio. Clean water and sanitation have reduced the incidence of cholera and other waterborne diseases.
